2015 Weekly Photo Challenge – Week 8

Oooooh, this challenge should be easy for me since I do it often, the Rule of Thirds. Of course, we were on vacation to see my sister in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina, last weekend and only one shot really captured the Rule of Thirds and is the second shot attached.

So to really do the challenge, I walked through the house tonight to select a subject and went with my boyfriend’s passion … cars. Especially Corvette vs. Ferrari. He commutes 80 miles a day [as do I] in a gorgeous 2003 Corvette [as I do not] and has just hit 275,000 miles! He loves Ferrari’s and receives them for Christmas often .. just not to scale for humans. To drive a Ferrari in Pennsylvania, daily, would be a crazy expense – so for now, he is looking into the 2015 Z06 to my dismay – even though I absolutely love the newest American Supercar!

Enjoy the last weekend of February and wishing everyone warm thoughts! Cheers, sas

2015 Weekly Photo Challenge – Week 7

We were away last week and I neglected to post week 7’s challenge, Symmetry.

This is one of my favorite subjects along the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, the Columbia Railroad Bridge. I was tempted to test the ice [that rarely forms] so I could show you how symmetrical it actually is … but I may not have survived and NO ONE wants to go into that body water, no matter what time of year it is. Cheers, sas

2015 Weekly Photo Challenge – Week 6

This week’s challenge was Scale … as with most of the topics, I could have gone a million ways with this, but I chose to use one of my favorite subjects, Phineas Tumblebumm, our one year old orange tabby cat. He is the sweetest love-bug in the world, but does have an alter ego when we call him “The Orange Terror”. When he is in that mode, you never know what is going to be flipped over, torn into shreds or pounced upon!

When we were on vacation in Bonaire last year, I was in this great little artsy shop and stumbled upon a perfect wood mini version of Phineas and bought it immediately. It actually has dangling legs and I keep it on a book shelf next to our bed. If I didn’t know any better, I would think he knows it is in his likeness as he plays with it often. By playing I mean, I find it on the floor and have glued the legs back on a number of items [including after the photo session the other night]. I was torn between two of his poses, but selected this one since he is mirroring the miniature version of him.

Hope everyone is spending Valentine’s Day with the one you love! Cheers, sas

2015 Weekly Photo Challenge – Week 5

This weeks’ challenge is Depth … as a SCUBA diver, I truly wish I was on a dive trip where I could capture an easy photo depicting depth, but that is not for at least a month or two from now, so we need to shoot locally.

I went with the “depth of field” option and chose a subject that I see every day I work, 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. Of course, this is February in Philadelphia, so it is cold. On top of it, this station sits next to the Schuylkill River and today was super windy, so it was REALLY cold. My building connects to this station and I ran downstairs at the golden hour to grab a good shot. Forgetting my coat was not a good idea, nor was trying to shoot the track at rush hour … but I went to the edge and snapped away. A gentleman who worked for the train approached me and told me I could go past the little area that seemed to be restricted and shoot from there. I explained what I was doing and he thought it was great. Despite the cold, I found a warm soul that proved that Philly can be the city of brotherly love. It was a nice moment in an otherwise crazy week.

Hope your week was filled with unexpected warmth and surprises. Cheers, sas

note: my monitor at home is not that great and I realized the photo was darker than it should be, so I am reposting this photo.
